Belkin F5D6130 Wireless Network Access Point Review

Belkin F5D6130 Wireless Network Access Point
Average Reviews:

Good AP, very easy for administration and working fine with all 802.11b cards and hubs (encryption with key or password - 64 or 128 bit). But note, that this AP is only for a small office - there is no possibility to connect to external antena, signal is low powered (110mW), so the distance is very limited.

The WAP55AG was so easy to setup. Compared to past Linksys access points, there was no need for software installation as XP can determine configuration automatically. My Dell laptop could instantaneously identify the proper frequency and establish a link. Recently, I bought a second unit for my office and my laptop automatically connects at home or at work without any hassle whatsoever.

I was inmpressed with the adapter till I connected it to my laptop. I installed the driver and the device worked right away. Then I wasn't impressed at all. The signal strength was very LOW and my connection was poor. I was only 20 feet away from my wireless router. I even tried moving the devices to gain teh signal strength but nothing worked. I turned off this device and turn on the internal laptop WIFI. The signal strenght was HIGH and my connection was excellent. I went back to the GSI adapter and the signal strenght did not improve. My connection never did get better than LOW. I am returning this adapter am may try a different one. Not impressed at all. Even updated the drivers from their website. Nothing work and my skill level is very advanced. My career is networking and I have an extensive background in RF as well.

NETGEAR WG302 ProSafe 802.11g Wireless Access Point Review

NETGEAR WG302 ProSafe 802.11g Wireless Access Point
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased 3 of these APs with the expectation to replace 3 Cisco "b" APs and drop in. The setup used Radius for authentication which is claimed to be supported in both the online info and docs. After config (the web UI constantly has problems with cookies and forced you to re-login) the system would work. One quark was the IP address field for the radius server wouldn't accept more than one character in the forms. Up and running. However, upon reboot, the WG302 loses it Radius info and then cannot authenticate a client again. SHOWSTOPPER. After logging this with Netgear support - their response is this is an unsupported config and requires premium support. While this would be fine if it was a config issue, it's not ok given they claim support for these features and this was a required feature for purchase. They give no further support now.
I would HIGHLY recommend against the extra cost of this unit given it's buggy and has poor support. Config is difficult (I had to learn how to use the command line config), the upgrades are not well documented (they imply you have to import some obscure file with tftp - you don't but...), however the unit does have good range and works (No RADIUS of course) in a basic config.

The NETGEAR WG302 ProSafe 802.11g Wireless Access Point provides a secure and reliable wireless network with enterprise-level functionality at a mid-market price.
Fast and Secure Fully compatible with the 802.11g wireless standard at 54 Mbps, with an optional turbo mode for a speedy 108 Mbps when used with supported NETGEAR adapters, the WG302 offers a network connection that is fast and widely compatible. As 802.11g is backwards compatible with 802.11b, you needn't worry about your computers with older network cards not working.
Your data is secure as the WG302 complies with industry security standards for user authorization and wireless data encryption. WPA and 802.1x is supported for mutual authentication so only legitimate clients can associate with RADIUS servers. Also supported is MAC address authentication with a 256-user Access Control List and VPN pass-through.
Specially designed for Voice Over IP With support for SpectraLink voice priority, the access point will automatically provide priority mechanisms on the wireless network for any voice calls. This provides businesses with a simple and practical solution for combining voice and data over one line.
Bridge and Repeater Mode In addition to functioning as an access point, the access point can also be used as a bridge and as a repeater. Used as a bridge, the device allows you to connect two LANS wirelessly; as a repeater, your wireless signal's range is extended so even the remote corners of your home or office can be covered.
Smart Design and Easy Setup Thanks to support for IEEE 802.3af-based Power over Ethernet (PoE), the need for extra cables is eliminated and the access point doesn't have to be put near a power outlet. Simple Network Management Protocol is supported, making the device compatible with SNMP-based network management software. It supports all popular 802.1x port-based authentication protocols and administrators can remotely configure and monitor multiple WG302s via FTP.
NETGEAR's Smart Wizard browser-based interface makes setup a snap. The access point comes with two detachable antennas; optional accessories can further extend wireless capacity and range. The NETGEAR WG302 ProSafe 802.11g Wireless Access Point is backed by a 3-year warranty.
What's in the Box WG302 Wireless Access Point, two 5 dBi detachable antennas, resource CD, power adapter, ethernet cable, wall mounting kit, installation guide, warranty/support information card.

TRENDnet 54Mbps Wireless G PoE Access Point TEW-434APB (Blue) Review

TRENDnet 54Mbps Wireless G PoE Access Point TEW-434APB (Blue)

I recently bought a LCD TV that has an Ethernet connection to get on the internet. I dreaded the thought of running a cable to the TV. After looking around for an easier solution I found this and once I set it up as an "access client" it worked great. If you can set up a wireless router you will have no problem with the set up. It can be used on anything that has an Ethernet connection. I tested it on an older laptop that is just wireless B (11 Mbps), I disabled the wireless on the laptop and just connected the Trendnet to the laptop and now it is much faster on the internet. I also plan on using it on my new Blu-ray player that has the Netflix capability. I misunderstood the PoE feature as being able to draw power through the Ethernet cable like with USB devices, I was wrong and spent $10 more than I had to. Oh-well, lesson learned. Get the "TEW-430APB" unless you really have PoE.

TRENDnet 54Mbps Wireless G Access Point TEW-430APB (Blue) Review

TRENDnet 54Mbps Wireless G Access Point TEW-430APB (Blue)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have a couple of computers in one room, connected via LAN to a Linksys Wireless G router/access point, which is connected to a DSL modem. I wanted to put another computer an an Ethernet-attached printer on the floor above. The standard way to do this would be to run a Cat-5 cable from the Linksys router to a small hub on the upper floor, and connect the new computer and printer to it. It would be a long and complicated run, though, and would involve drilling through the floor. Not impossible, but I didn't really look forward to doing it.
This device seemed to be just what I was looking for: a way to replace a long run of Cat-5 cable with a wireless link. Put the TRENDnet Access Point on the upper floor along with a small hub (the Access Point has only one Ethernet jack), and plug the computer and printer into the hub.
The Access Point offers five modes of operation. The one I expected to use is called "WDS", for Wireless Distribution System. From the user manual, it appears as if this is the mode for just extending a LAN as I wanted to do. I was never able to get this mode of operation to communicate with the Linksys router. The manual is not well written, and the help windows from the Access Point's built in web server are even worse. Using browsers to look at the settings of both the Linksys and the TRENDnet, I verified that everything that I can set was entered correctly: Channel number, SSID, passphrases, MAC addresses, everything. No connection was ever made, in WDS mode.
So I tried "AP + WDS" mode; still nothing worked.
Finally I tried "AP Client" mode, in which (quoting now) "the AP will be a wireless Ethernet adapter transforms any Ethernet-enabled devices to have the wireless function." From the diagram, it would seem that only one device (computer, printer) could be attached. I tried connecting the switch with both computer and printer to the Access Point in this mode, and finally it all works.
Now that it's working, it is doing just what I wanted it to. The new computer can access the internet and share files with the ones downstairs, the downstairs computers can print on the upstairs printer, and so on.
The poor manual and even worse help text really drags this product down. I would have rated it much higher if it hadn't required so much experimentation to get it going.

ASUS RT-N12 Wireless-N Router, Access Point, and Repeater Review

ASUS RT-N12 Wireless-N Router, Access Point, and Repeater
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The short review is: excellent router, extremely easy to set up, great range, good stability, nice white color, absolutely no complaints.
Here's the longer review:
I took a total risk on this router...there were no reviews on Amazon, I'd never heard of ASUS, and wasn't convinced that ordering it was a good idea. However, the price was right, and I had just spent frustrating hours trying to configure a Netgear route. My previous router, a D-link, had a "known issue" that the manufacturer solved by discontinuing the model's support. So, I thought, let me try this unknown brand and see what happens. If worse comes to worse I'd just return it to Amazon.
WOW was I pleased! Literally, 10 minutes after I had opened it, I had it configured as an access point, had logged into the router from my wireless laptop, and had set up a password to encrypt the network. I've set up maybe 5-7 routers in my life and always dread it... this was by far the easiest experience I've ever had. In the picture on the site, this router looks like it's an ugly grey color. It is a shiny smooth white - think Apple ipod aesthetic - with nice white antennas. Very aesthetically pleasing.
Though the advertising for this router states "diskless setup" it come with an optional setup disk. I did not use it as I wanted to test the advertising's claim...and am pleased to say it's an example of truth in advertising!
I'm also getting very good signal strength, speed and stability...I will DEFINITELY update this review if I run into issues, but overall I'm giving this thing 5 stars (and I almost never give 5 stars because I think everything has room for improvement) because it was so inexpensive and easy to set up, and performs exactly as advertised.
I am using this router as an "access point" which means it is connected via ethernet cable to another router and serves to extend the range of my wireless network. There's a switch on the back that allows you to select access point mode, standard router mode, or bridge/repeater mode.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
Update 5/10/2010- still working great... I put some white electricians' tape over the blue LEDs in front as they were too bright, but other than that, no issues at all. I forget it's there - it just works all the time without needing to be unplugged every so often like my other routers.... my wireless devices are always connected to it and don't lose signal. Still a 5-star review.

NETGEAR WG602 54 Mbps 802.11g Wireless Access Point Review

NETGEAR WG602 54 Mbps 802.11g Wireless Access Point
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this item, because, on the back of the box, it shows the WG602 being used as a bridge to connect to a WGT624 access point. This is extremely misleading, and well, plain wrong, as a couple of other reviewers have pointed out. I was on the phone with extremely unhelpful tech support (that they outsourced to India, I believe), and it took several hours of run-around for the support guy to actually admit that the two products are not compatible (he had to ask someone else). Had he researched this properly in the beginning, hours would have been saved. I was eventually informed (after being told to upgrade firware, change numerous settings, etc.) that the WG602 would only bridge to another WG602. THE BACK OF THE BOX IS WRONG! Don't buy this if you're looking for a bridge that's compatible with any other AP.

The NETGEAR WG602 54 Mbps 802.11g Wireless Access Point lets you easily set up a wireless network in your home so you can share a single internet connection with everyone in your household at speeds up to 54 Mbps. Note that to share an internet connection you will need a router into which you can plug the WG602 access point. If you do not have a router, consider NETGEAR's Wireless-G Router WGR614."
Easy Setup The WG602 makes it easy for even a novice to set up a wireless network: just plug the included Ethernet cable from your LAN into the device and insert the included CD into any computer on the network, which will provide step-by-step instructions. The WG602 offers a myriad of placement options by including a stand for vertical placement and slots on the bottom for mounting on a wall or ceiling. The default 2 dBi omnidirectional antenna can be removed and you can install an external antenna most suited for your needs onto the standard SMA connector.
The WG602 employs a web-based interface for configuration, allowing you to adjust settings such as the beacon interval, RTS threshold, and DTIM interval. The firmware is also upgradeable via the web interface so you can be sure your access point will always be up-to-date.
Fast and Secure Supporting the 802.11g standard, the NETGEAR WG602 offers data speeds of up to 54 Mbps, making it possible to share a broadband internet connection, stream music without hiccups, watch videos with less load time, and videoconference without problems. Downloading files is up to five times faster than it was with 802.11b. If you still have computers that use 802.11b, don't fret as the access point is backwards compatible with the older wireless standard and can be set so all your computers can connect to the network and the WG602 will automatically figure out the connection type and work accordingly.
The WG602 offers many security options to ensure your data is private. Both 40/64-bit and 128-bit WEP encryption is available, as well as Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA2-PSK). You can also use MAC address authentication to allow only authorized users onto the network.
Bridge and Repeater Mode In addition to functioning as an access point, the WG602 can also be used as a bridge and as a repeater. Used as a bridge, the device allows you to connect two LANS wirelessly; as a repeater, your wireless signal's range is extended so even the remote corners of your home or office can be covered.
The NETGEAR WG602 54 Mbps Wireless Access Point is backed by a 1-year warranty.
