Prosafe Dual Band Wirelss-n Access Point Review

Prosafe Dual Band Wirelss-n Access Point
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I use this AP along with a NetGear dual band WNDR3700 Router, a Netgear GS116NA Giga Switch switch and a Netgear WNHDE111 5 GHz AP. I have ethernet cables from each AP back to the switch.
When you open the box you'll find the build quality of this AP to be very impressive. You'll get a CD that has an excellent manual which describes how to set up the unit. You can also go to the Netgear website and download the manual to see what you will be getting into. Not so bad but you should really have some idea of wireless settings since you will be able to select and adjust them with the WNDAP350. The manual is very helpful and if you just want to set up WPA2-PSK using a PassPhrase [network key] on both bands you'll have no problems as you will leave almost all settings on their default.
When the device arrives you don't immediately put in on your network. First you'll hook up the WNDAP350 to a laptop or desktop computer via an ethernet cable [provided in the box]. This removes the computer from the network and allows it to communicate with the WNDAP350. Why, well the WNDAP350 comes with a default IP of 192.168.0.237 so you set your adapter to have a static IP of 192.168.0.210. [subnet 255.255.255.0]. All of this is covered in the manual. You then go to your browser and type in [...] and this opens the excellent interface for the WNDAP350. Then you set the IP of the WNDAP350 to what you want for your network, say 196.168.1.10, and click apply. You can then set the computer adapter you were using back to "obtain an IP address automatically" and hook it back into your network. Now you are all set to put the WNDAP350 in your network and you can complete all settings from any network computer using the browser interface built into the WNDAP350. If you make a mistake in configuring the unit there is a reset button so you can start the process over.
If this made sense to you or you're willing to learn then you can't beat this AP as its one of the best around.

Cisco-Linksys Power Over Ethernet Adapter Kit Review

Linksys makes a version of this unit ( WAPPOE12 ) - that is designed for 12 volt systems.

Click Here to see more reviews about: Cisco-Linksys Power Over Ethernet Adapter Kit

The Linksys Power Over Ethernet Adapter Kit lets you put your access points almost anywhere, by removing the requirement of nearby power outlets. By using the existing Category 5 Ethernet cabling to deliver power to any standard 5 volt access point or other network device, you save the time, hassle, and expense of running AC power to the access points installation location. The best position for a wireless access point is usually on the ceiling, in the center of the area to be covered. Second best would be high on a nearby wall. Unfortunately, theres usually no easily accessible AC power plugs available in these locations. With the Power Over Ethernet Adapter Kit, installing the access point in these preferred spots becomes far less trouble.

I bought this card after having lots of problems with a linksys card. I have a dell laptop and I'm running Windows XP Home. The linksys card had poor signal strength and repeatedly dropped signals, even if seated next to the router. This netgear card is phenomenal. The signal hasn't been dropped yet and I have a signal throughout my house (4000 sq. ft.) and outside! Avoid the linksys card and buy netgear! I can't say enough good things about this card. NETGEAR XE103G-100NAS Powerline Ethernet Adapter Review

NETGEAR XE103G-100NAS Powerline Ethernet Adapter
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I would have rated this 5 stars but for the price. It seems a bit expensive and if wireless had been an answer probably the way I would have gone. I have been having wireless network problems and wanted something that would extend my lan in the house without lots of wiring. This is a great answer. I read the directions (made sure it was not plugged into a power strip), plugged in near my router, went upstairs, plugged it in there and it worked, no problems and as fast as when right next to the router.
I must admit there was also a somewhat unresearched idea that my data is safer on a wire network than wireless, even with the encryption that I used when my wireless worked.

The NETGEAR XE103G 85 Mbps Powerline Network Adapter Kit lets you easily extend a home network using just the existing electric lines of your home, eliminating the need to run unsightly Ethernet wires all over your house. At 85 Mbps, you'll have more than enough speed to download music, stream videos, and make internet telephone calls without any hiccups.
True Plug and Play Installation The XE103G comes with two XE103 units. Simply plug one of them into a wall outlet and connect it to your router with an Ethernet cord. Plug the second one into the wall outlet where you need a network connection and connect it to any Ethernet-ready device. That's it. There's no software to install. You can create as many network connections as you need by connecting more XE103 units wherever you need them. Each device has easy-to-read icon LEDs for status information at a glance.
Fast Performance Each XE103 supports speeds up to 85 Mbps which is enough for multiple video streams without interruptions. The XE103 has a 10/100 Ethernet port with which you can connect a PC, gaming console, Slingbox, DVR, NETGEAR's SC101T Storage Central Turbo or ReadyNAS NV+, or another networkable device. In order to enable encryption, you need a computer with Windows Vista, XP, or 2000.

NETGEAR WNHDEB111-100NAS Wireless N Access Point Review

NETGEAR WNHDEB111-100NAS Wireless N Access Point
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this kit to send HD video from my computer to my TV media device. It has adequate bandwidth and worked out of the box, but I do not get a strong signal from the main floor to the basement of my house, a distance of about 25 feet. There are a couple of walls as well as the floor, and the basement ceiling has metal duct work and pipes above the plasterboard, so I am probably lucky to penetrate all that. I used a laptop to indicate wireless signal strength, and spent a couple of hours orienting each device for the best signal. Now I get a level that varies from 50% to 70%, and that works reliably for HD at 720p. I have not been able to send 1080i over the link without momentary stops and starts in the audio and video; however the link never breaks connection and never needs resetting. It seems to just limit the bandwidth as the signal strength goes lower.
I bought a third WNHDE 111 to connect to another computer, and than link has never been interrupted since I installed it over a month ago. It has always worked well. I had previously used a Linksys G router that was interrupted once or twice a day, and it had to be reinstated manually using the "repair" function in the Windows wireless software. It was my wife's computer in the kitchen, so I had to fix it!
I still have the wireless G system up, and it works well around the house with a third computer, a laptop, but it never gave a reliable signal for my wife's computer in the kitchen; and it would not carry the HD video for the TV. I also use that old G router to connect the ethernet from my main computer to the WNHDE 111.
I recommend this device if you don't have too many walls and floors to penetrate. I am a retired electronics engineer, and I assure everyone that the higher the frequency, the poorer the penetration, but the more bandwidth and the more freedom from interference.
Update: After 7 months, I have better results. With some tweaking of the settings (set the Channel Width to 20 MHz, turn off the "Broadcast SSID", and lower Beacon Period to 50 msec) I can now stream 25 Mbps HD video through all the walls. I think the main problem was that the auto 20/40 Channel Width was trying to run at 40 and was not successful, sometimes switching between 20 and 40. When I reduced the channel width, I got an increase in signal strength. I can now stream 1080i HD for hours without any problem.
Jim

The NETGEAR HD/Gaming 5 GHz Wireless-N Networking Kit WNHDEB111 enables super-fast file transfers at the highest possible Wireless-N speeds, making it an ideal solution for network gaming and streaming HD videos. By utilizing patented metamaterial antenna technology, the WNHDEB111 offers a speed and range far surpassing the old Wireless-G standard.
Easy Setup The WNHDEB111 kit includes two access point/bridges, preconfigured to securely connect to each other. Setting it up is as easy as connecting one access point to your router/gateway, and connecting the other to your networkable device, such as your XBox, Playstation, Wii, TiVo HD, Slingbox, digital set-top boxes, NETGEAR's Digital Entertainer HD, Apple TV, network attached storage, and more. Setup is easily and securely done with a simple "Push 'N Connect" feature using Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS), which eliminates the need to remember or input security password keys. It automatically configures to access point or bridge mode depending on the type of Ethernet enabled device it connects to.
To add another HD Bridge to your HD network, the NETGEAR 5 GHz Wireless-N HD Access Point/Bridge is available.
Minimal Interference = Outstanding Performance Most wireless devices today, such as Wi-Fi devices, cordless phones, Bluetooth devices, microwaves, and baby monitors, operate on the 2.4 GHz frequency, thus creating a lot of traffic and interference. The WNHDEB111, however, operates on the 5 GHz band which has up to 23 free channels and avoids the interference that most other devices must contend with.
The WNHDEB111 complies with the latest Wireless-N draft specification for the fastest possible Wireless-N speeds. Automatic Quality of Service (QoS) ensures lag-free gaming and jitter-free HD streaming. It supports wireless "ad-hoc" mode for wireless LAN peer-to-peer gaming and supports multicast point-to-multi-point HD video streaming.
The WNHDEB111 supports WiFi Protected Access (WPA2-PSK, WPA-PSK), and 64-bit and 128-bit WEP encryption and is backed by a 1-year warranty.

NETGEAR SC101 Storage Central Review

NETGEAR SC101 Storage Central
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Well I purchased 4 of these units, hoping to make this stack of 40GB, 80GB and 120GB drives I have laying around the house useful again. So far, buying these was not a good idea. I attribute most of my problems to there not being enough real technical review of the product available, and all documentation simply glosses over technical details in exchange for sales-speak. First, I'll say these are niftily crafted units that might have been pretty slick if they'd worked the way I expected them to. Problems encountered and gripes mounted include:
* These are not NAS devices, as some of the documentation might lead you to believe. A NAS device (network attached storage) typically offers clients the ability to connect to the device, using it's native fileshare method. CIFS for Windows, NFS for Linux/Unix, etc. These devices offer none of that.
* Device is available to Windows clients on the network only. If that's not bad enough, check the following gripe.
* Every PC that wants to access the device needs to have the software CD installed. Usually a NAS device will offer a shared filesystem that can be mounted in the OS's native method. With this box, all the PCs need to have a driver installed in order to see the device.
* DHCP only. There is no option to have a static IP address on the device. It is DHCP only.
* On first install, lamely worded error message hindered the install. After installing the device and the driver, it kept failing with the error "Unable to enumerate drive". The help file was useless. After an hour of messing with it and finally deleting all of my mapped drives, the installation suceeded and I was able to use the device.
* You MUST use the included software. Although the device seems to be listening on port 80, there is no web interface to configure it. The included software, running on Windows is the only way.
* Non-Windows systems are out of luck. This is a Windows only device. Do not try to connect to it with Mac OSX or Linux (both of which I have). The device can be connected and re-shared by a Windows PC, allowing Macs and Linux to get to it, but this has proved painstakingly slow.
* Painstakingly slow. I connected the device to an older Windows PC and the best sustained data transfer I could get (read or write) was around 3MB/s. Hardly a speed demon. My linux fileserver on the same network can easily sustain 10MB/s. I am going to connect the device to a faster Xeon based system and see how speedy it is then.
* Simple security. I saw no method of creating usernames or any kind of security on the device other than the single password that can be setup to access the device. Probably because this is designed for the home where there are not a bunch of users and passwords to manage.
Now this is a pretty new product, so hopefully it will get better with time. It seemed like such a good idea (obviously, I bought 4 of them), but I'm not convinced it was the best execution. Buyer beware.

The NETGEAR SC101 Storage Central is an expandable storage system that allows shared access by all computers on your network. With space for two IDE hard drives, you can set the device up to mirror each other so you have a backup of all your files in case either one fails.
Excellent Value and Easy Setup Unlike other network-attached storage (NAS) devices, the SC101 does not come with any drives but requires you to purchase your own. This allows for considerable cost savings. Opening up the SC101 only requires turning a latch that can be done with a quarter; no tools are needed. Attach the power connectors and IDE cables, set the jumpers, and slide the drive into place, and that's it.
After the hard drives are installed, plug the device in, attach it to the network, and install the included software. The software guides you through setup step by step. When everything is ready to go, it looks like a new hard drive has been installed on your PC and you use it just as you would any other hard drive. Backup software is included for users who don't already have their own preferred software. Please note that the SC101 is only compatible with Windows machines and won't work with Macs or Linux.
Outstanding Performance with Various Storage Options The SC101 connects to your network via a 10/100 Mbps Ethernet connection for fast data transfers. When you connect two drives to the device, you have the option of having them "mirrored" or "spanned." Mirrored storage lets you keep two copies of every file, one on each drive, so that everything is backed up in case of drive failure. When two drives are set to span, they appear as one volume so they are easy to work with and the device will automatically find your data across both drives.
The front panel has three LEDs to let you know the status of the power, hard disk and network at a glance. The NETGEAR SC101 Storage Central is backed by a 1-year warranty.

NETGEAR WN511T RangeMax Next Wireless-N Notebook Adapter Review

NETGEAR WN511T RangeMax Next Wireless-N Notebook Adapter
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Based on so far excellent experiences with Netgear, I obtained the router WNR854T and the access adapter WN511T. To my dismay, I was never able to get network established. Even the router itself is very troublesome, uncharacteristic for Netgear so far. But is works finally, as a wired router at least. Not so the adapter.
After I installed the software, I instantly saw our network discovered with 85% signal. Good, I thought, a piece of cake. Well, it was not. The IP address of the adapter was always 0.0.0.0 and no connection has ever been made. Strangely enough, when I changed anything on the router wireless setting, this change was instantly discovered by the card adapter WN511T and the software, and yet no channel change, with or without security setting has ever helped to establish a connection on my WinXP system.
I called support and someone with an obvious indian accent was to assist me. We have spend 1 hour 50min while basically repeating everything in the book, like changing settings, rebooting, rebooting in safe mode without firewall or virus scanner etc., etc., all such basic stuff. All to no avail. The specialist escalated the case and gave me another case number. He promised me that I would be called.
Meanwhile my right to return the product has expired and noone called me. Instead I received two emails from Netgear asking me for... satisfaction feedback, including this "escalated case"!!! I think that this outraged me most. I did not wanted hang on a phone again and so I filed an online complaint with Netgear. I received yet another case number, the 3rd to be precise. Yet another person with Indian name send me guide to establish the network. This person ignored completely my message so far, did not explained what went wrong with the "escalation," and send me again most basic hints from "page 1" in the manual. All I could do was to click "does not help" and remind them of the 1 hour 50 min spend with someone already on making basic steps.
I have also received a "critical firmware update" email for my router. I performed the upgrade in a hope for an improvement. This upgrade said that we have to upgrade the firmware for WN511T as well. So I downloaded this upgrade 1.0.0.4, or similar, but it never wanted install. I started the installation program from the CD. The installed notified me that (surprise, surprise) "critical upgrade 1.0.0.4" is available via net (I have also a wired adapter with direct net access) and asked me to use this new version instead. So I did, and it installed this time, but afterwards the adapter card has vanished from the list of devices. After some rebooting, removing and plugging in the card, it appeared once for a brief time, to vanquish for good. Device manager sees some "unknown network adapter" and fails to install drivers for it, via net or from the CD.
I could here also write an essay about Netgears wireless assistant software, let me skip this here except for a remark: It is not a mature software either.
Another email came in from Netgear support from another person, this time, wow, with English name. He assumed that we have bad interference and asked to switch off wireless phone and all other devices operating in the 2.4GHz range. We use 5GHz phones, and here in the dense populated Silicon Valley we cannot avoid interference, if the interference is the reason for the problem at all. Finally, Netgear's enthusiastic promotion claims that interference and dead spots are now history with their so great RangeMax NEXT 811N technology...
Now that I cannot return the device, I am hang with it and I am exploring my consumer rights to send it back to Netgear. I have no time to fight this immature technology. Like you and you, I am busy and I use computer to work.

Netgear EVA700 Digital Entertainer Review

Netgear EVA700 Digital Entertainer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Before I bought this unit, I tried the D-Link DSM-520 for about a month before giving up. This unit is identical to the DSM in function with one BIG difference-- it is stable! My advise to those not wanting to tinker- skip this technology for a year or so, others read on...
Install
~~~~
I hooked it up to a wireless router and PC with a few external hard drives and it works (almost) flawlessly. First of all, like others said, do NOT install the software that it comes with and also forget Intel Viv technology installs. Just install one of the free (or almost free) software like TVersity (my fav.), Wizd or Twonkyvision. However, except for Wizd, you can't search for a particular album/artist/genre. You have to scroll through menu after menu to find a movie/song/photo.
Media
~~~~~
I am currently streaming a few hundred CDs in FLAC (lossless format) which is noticeably better than the very best MP3 format. For DVDs, I simply have the server software pointed to the Folders that have the DVD (VOB) files. The player does a very good job of picking up subtitles automatically too. I have NOT installed the photo folder as I find the usage completely useless for my needs. I shoot 6MP raw format images. I can't see myself browsing through tens of thousands of images and then waiting for 1 minute for an image to load up!
Conclusion
~~~~~~~~~
All in all, a good system for those that are not intimidated by network setups and server programs but want an uncluttered music system and (almost) instant access to movies, music and photos.
Sent hours trying to get two of these to bridge using every setting you could think of. I had to do this because the automatic configure buttons DO NOT WORK. They work good as a WAP if they are hardwired back to they router. So if you need a WAP and a switch in a remote area and can connect it to the router with a cat 5 cable, you'll be fine. Could not bridge with existing new Netgear router either (tried WPS button) and many different settings.
NETGEAR WG111T Super-G Wireless USB 2.0 Adapter Review
NETGEAR WG111T Super-G Wireless USB 2.0 Adapter
Average Reviews:
(More customer reviews)
Although, this is a great deal: easy to setup, easy to install, easy to reset, etc., it does contain many problems.
One problem is that it heats up to quickly, mainly because its through USB, and USB travels really quick, especially if you are running a USB 2.0 port instead of 1.1 port.
Another main problem is that it doesn't function well unless you have a netgear router. I got a new router when I renewed my Verizon contract, and decided to get this so I could network my two comptuers without having to open it up. Often times it says that network is unavailable, even though the adapter is receiving fine. When I bought a Netgear router, it worked flawlessly, but if you don't have a netgear router, its a hassle.
The size is overall good, and you can either plug it in directly to the USB, or have a cord so that you can wrap it around or hang it on the side of your computer. Netgear has great customer support, even though their lines are often full the wait time is long, they are always there.
I've only had one for 2 months, but so far, it really hasn't given me any problems. Just make sure when your not using it, to unplug it, or it will heat up and wear quicker.
Wireless networking is constantly evolving, and the need for increasingly faster speeds and greater range is not only sought after, but expected. If better wireless speed and range with consistent wireless connections is what you're looking for, then NETGEAR has you covered with the WG111T Super-G Wireless USB 2.0 Adapter. With this handy device you'll have no more dropped connections, and you can kiss dead spots goodbye.
If you love all the new media applications, such as video and music streaming, you know you need a wireless connection that operates at lightning quick speeds to keep things running smooth. These new applications are nearly impossible with the old 802.11b wireless protocol, but they are certainly attainable with increased wireless speeds. The WG111T delivers the speed you desire. At 108 Mbps, it is up to ten times faster than 802.11b, and extends your network coverage up to four times more than standard Wireless-G protocol.
NETGEAR also helps you keep it simple with an easy-to-use, intuitive USB 2.0 interface. Just plug the WG111T into the external USB slot of your desktop or notebook PC, and you'll be ready to connect. Plus, you can keep your network private with WEP encryption, and this diminutive device is even upgradeable to the more secure WPA encryption (Wi-Fi Protected Access).
Setup is made quick and easy with the Smart Wizard install software. The WG111T has a compact, pocket-sized casing and with the included five foot USB cable, you can place this device near your computer for optimal signal strength for the best performance.
System requirements include a Pentium class PC, an available USB port, two MB of free hard drive space, and Microsoft Windows Vista, XP or 2000. Microsoft Vista drivers are available at www.netgear.com/vista.
NETGEAR FVS338 ProSafe VPN Firewall 50 Review
NETGEAR FVS338 ProSafe VPN Firewall 50
Average Reviews:
(More customer reviews)
I bought 2 of these for vpn tunnel between 2 offices, after updating to the june 2007 firmware everything worked like a charm. I share IP based phone system, Ip based camera system, and exchange servers between the two offices, the vpn works great between both offices. Everything works no problems. Maybe this model had problems before but it seems great to me now... Oh another thing I called up netgear support to help me setup the vpn and they practically setup my vpn on both ends by remote login. They made sure everything worked and even called me next day to make sure everything was working fine. All I did later was change the passwords and the vpn key. Overall a good buy.
Netgear WGR101 Cable/DSL Wireless Travel Router Review
Netgear WGR101 Cable/DSL Wireless Travel Router
Average Reviews:
(More customer reviews)
I applaud Netgear for being first to market with this device (the only other I know of is the Apple Airport Express), designed for geeky business travellers. There've been many times when I've been in a hotel with wired Internet access but wanted to use my laptop across the room in bed, or in a conference room with one wired network drop and a handful of people who wanted to use it. Travelling with a 30-foot cable and/or a multi-port switch is no fun. This device is light and tiny, has a modest-sized power adapter, and even comes with a short cable for connecting to a wired port and a zippered carrying case for all of that plus your pc-card NIC.
If you're not concerned with security and have your wireless NIC set to do DHCP basically all you do is plug it in and you're all set. Configuring the device is kind of a pain though: you can only connect to it wirelessly, so if you forget the SSID after setting it not to broadcast, or forget the WEP key, you have to use the reset button and start over (make sure you hold it down a good 10 seconds, just pressing it once quickly doesn't work).
It doesn't act quite like a typical router despite some product literature I've read: on a hotel network it doesn't provide firewall or NAT security--keep in mind if the hotel assigns you a public IP you're bare naked on the Internet.
Although the physical switch on the unit that puts it in config or single-/multi-user mode is a neat idea for security, it gave me a lot of problems having to reassociate or power cycle the device after changing settings. Given that in its default state it's a pass-through device like a bridge and has no IP address, there may not be a significantly better way though.
I had little to no luck using this device with my home router or cable modem, but on a hotel wired access point it was seamless including VPN connectivity (unlike my Netgear MR814 at home). Range is very good even through walls and floors/ceilings. I got mine for about half price after rebates which, I think, just barely makes it worth it. If you like to have the latest gadget, and especially if you travel, this is less of a pain and certainly niftier than carrying around a 30-foot cable and/or hub.
802.11G Wless Bb Router with qos Review
802.11G Wless Bb Router with qos
Average Reviews:
(More customer reviews)
Router works pretty well except for the fact that IT LOCKS UP AT LEAST ONCE A DAY. It'll drop all connections (wireless and wired) and refuse new ones until you reset it. Plus, mine refuses to upgrade the firmware and gives "not enough resources" errors. I have hardware v1.0 so MAYBE v3.0 is better, but why take the gamble?
NETGEAR WG311T Super-G Wireless PCI Adapter Review
NETGEAR WG311T Super-G Wireless PCI Adapter
Average Reviews:
(More customer reviews)
Just installed the WG311T PCI cards on two pc's connecting through my WGT624 and so far everything is great . Good signal and speed on both computers and no dis-connects . Iam pretty happy with my results todate .
But .......
IMPORTANT NOTE ON INSTALL WITH XP AND SP2 !!!
1.)If you use the Netgear application to monitor/manage your Wifi stuff then you MUST disable the "wireless-zero" in the "Adminstative tools" in the control panel for things to work correctly ( start/settings/contrpl panel/administative tools/services/wireless zero ; and put to "DISABLE"
2.)If you use WindowsXP to monitor/manage your Wifi , then you MUST disable the Netgear application (start /run / then TYPE IN: msconfig / then look in "startup"/ then DISABLE or UN-CHECK the line saying "GEAR 311T".
You must do one of the two items Ive listed to make sure your netgear Wifi works /connects properly (to the internet) . Seems you cant NOT use both applications together in anyway . Ive done ALOT of testing on this and this is the ONLY method(s) Ive found to work correctly (and this is not mentioned by Netgear or Microsoft) .
I hope this helps future users of this equipment . =)
NETGEAR RangeMax Wireless PC Card WPN511 - Network adapter - CardBus - 802.11b, 802.11g Review
NETGEAR RangeMax Wireless PC Card WPN511 - Network adapter - CardBus - 802.11b, 802.11g
Average Reviews:
This little card, when used with the teaching tools of Linux and Windows based OS platforms, this little card works very well with both. It's maximum range capability allows my laptop to be used at over 100 feet from the wireless router. With the capability to transmit information to another (ad-hoc) computer such as a laptop the range and the Tx and Rx is far greater than 100 feet. With the Linux OS platform using in conjunction with the madwifi driver, the compatability and ease of use is dead on.
If you are looking for a great product, versatility, and user friendly application of installment, then this is the product of choice.
