Love this for my laptop. replaced a USB wireless connector which was bulky and using precious ports. Install was quick with CD, connection is superb at the max rate, and worth every penny of the $50ish I paid.

NETGEAR WPN511 RangeMax Wireless PC Card Review

NETGEAR WPN511 RangeMax Wireless PC Card
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Yes, it does "work". Meaning if you get the RangeMax router or wireless access point, the pair of them do give you better range than (for example) a Netgear WGT624 router with a WGT511 card (and other such combos that I've tried). It's a bit erratic -- the signal level fluctuates, which seems to me to be a software (algorithm) problem. I hope they can improve it further, but for now it's meeting my needs.
A bit more detail: I have a large house, and the networking stuff is all at one end (never mind why), so at the other end of the house the wireless signal would fade to nothing. With this RangeMax combo I can now get an adequate signal (2 bars) where I used to get nothing.
So don't expect too much, but also don't be daunted by the bad reviews, it's worth a try. As you know, every building is different, so as they say in another context, your results may vary.

The NETGEAR WPN511 RangeMax Wireless PC Card makes it simple for you to provide wireless internet access to your notebook computer, letting you surf the web, check email, and chat online without the need for cables. It is up to ten times faster and has up to ten times more coverage than Wireless-G for a speedy network that won't get bogged down when you you stream music and videos or make internet phone calls.
Easy Setup The WPN511 is a PC Card and requires a Pentium class PC with an available 32-bit CardBus slot for installation. It supports Windows Vista and is also compatible with Windows XP, 2000, 98SE, and Me. Setup is as simple as inserting the card into the slot and installing the included software. A built-in antenna helps you receive a strong signal for the fastest possible speeds.
Fast and Secure The NETGEAR WPN511 supports the 802.11g protocol standard but is able to provide better performance thanks to Smart MIMO technology that incorporates intelligent internal antennas into the router. The router automatically senses interference from devices such as microwaves and cordless phones, and adjusts accordingly. The upshot is speeds up to 108 Mbps with a longer range and a lack of "dead zones" in your home. The adapter is also backwards compatible with 802.11b networks so you don't have to worry about not getting a connection at specific hotspots; the WPN511 will automatically detect the network and allow you to connect to it at the highest speed possible.
The PC card supports 40/64-bit and 128-bit WEP encryption as well as WPA-PSK for security so you don't have to worry about anyone eavesdropping on your emails or stealing your passwords. The included software makes managing different WEP passwords a breeze as you can set up different profiles for each location you frequent, saving yourself the trouble of having to type in encryption keys each time you connect to a hotspot you've already used.
The NETGEAR WPN511 Wireless-G PC Card is backed by a 1-year warranty.

D-Link DWL-G630 Wireless Cardbus Adapter, 802.11g, 54Mbps Review

D-Link DWL-G630 Wireless Cardbus Adapter, 802.11g, 54Mbps
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I agree with several other reviews here that the card is bad. But, if you had bought it and don't want to spend money returnig it, some tweaking would make it work good! A good product should be real plug and play but this is not!!
I bought it as a router and pc card (both D-link 802.11g) set to use at home. I have my desktop connected by cable to the router and my laptop connecting wirelessly. Installation was a snap for both the router and the card and they worked fine and I was able to browse and share files between both the computers - all at good speed.
Trouble started when I went to work with my laptop or when I used laptop on its battery. The card took a long time to recognize the network and the computer kept saying 'cound not connect to network drives'.
The other problem was that my battery drained very fast. So fast to the extent that some times just booting up and reading my emails will already have used up 75% battery!!
Minor trouble; the D-link utility does the exact samething that Windows XP wireless connection manager does. However, there is no (easy) way to disable the utility from loading. Even if you use windows XP to configure wireless connections, the D-link utility sits there and does nothing.
Solutions:
1. You can prevent the D-link utility from loading and this improves performance - makes connections quicker actually. Click Start..Run.. ; Type 'msconfig' and click OK. In the window that appears click the 'Startup' tab; You will see a long list of programs that are enabled at start up. Uncheck 'airplus.exe' and 'reg.exe' both of which run from the D-link installation directory.
2. To conserve battery, Right click the wireless connection icon on the tray; click status... click Properties... Click 'configure' right next to the D-link airplus g card's name. Go to the advanced tab and choose 'powersavemode' from the list..choose property 'normal' or 'maximum' to save your battery.
These two actions make a card actually work better than using D-link's utility (Do all tweaking at your own risk! It worked for me, but, cannot guarantee it'll work for you w/o causing any trouble). Good luck!!

NETGEAR WN511B RangeMax Wireless-N Notebook Adapter Review

NETGEAR WN511B RangeMax Wireless-N Notebook Adapter
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Well, I finally learned the secret of how to get the best performance from the 11n wireless router: use this interface instead of the built-in one. Now, I can connect from the family room downstairs and get the full rated speed. Before, the best I could manage using the built-in Intel interface was half that. This interface connects on two separate channels to achieve the max. Setup was easy, even on Vista.

The NETGEAR WN511B RangeMax Next Wireless-N Notebook Adapter makes it easy for you to provide blazing-speed wireless internet access to your notebook computer, letting you surf the web, check email, stream music, make internet phone calls, and get a leg up on opponents when playing online games.
Easy Setup The WN511B is a PC Card and requires a Pentium 3 class PC with an available PC Card slot for installation. It supports Windows Vista and is also compatible with Windows XP and 2000 SP4. Setup is as simple as inserting the card into the slot and installing the included software. A built-in stub antenna helps you receive a strong signal for the fastest possible speeds.
Fast, Backwards Compatible, and Secure The NETGEAR WN511B uses the Wireless-N protocol (based on 802.11n draft) for speeds up to 270 Mbps and a range ten times that of 802.11g adapters. With this much speed and bandwidth, you can easily download large files, place Internet phone calls, download MP3s, stream video, and play online games -- all at the same time, without hiccups, and from farther away. You'll notice the difference immediately.
The WN511B is backwards compatible with 802.11g and 802.11b wireless networks so you'll be able to connect to any hotspot, and it improves network performance up to 50 percent when used with the older 802.11b/g networks.
You can feel secure about your information as the adapter supports Wi-Fi protected access (WPA2-PSK, WPA-PSK) and 64-bit and 128-bit WEP encryption for IEEE 082.11b and IEEE 802.11g. The included software makes managing different WEP passwords a breeze as you can set up different profiles for each location you frequent, saving yourself the trouble of having to type in encryption keys each time you connect to a hotspot you've already used.
The NETGEAR WN511B RangeMax Next Wireless-N Notebook Adapter is backed by a 1-year warranty.

NETGEAR WAG511 802.11a/b/g Dual Band Wireless PC Card Review

NETGEAR WAG511 802.11a/b/g Dual Band Wireless PC Card
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This card is great if you have a 802.11b router at home and 802.11a or g at work or University.
It is true that it is more expensive than the others, but you get access to three standards instead of 1 or 2.
If you'll always be working in a 802.11g or 802.11a network, buy another card, buy if you need access wherever you go, this is for you.
