The Linksys Compact Wireless-G Broadband Router is really three devices in one small box. First, there's the Wireless Access Point, which lets you connect both screaming fast Wireless-G (802.11g at 54Mbps) and Wireless-B (802.11b at 11Mbps) devices to the network. There's also a built-in 4-port full-duplex 10/100 Switch to connect your wired-Ethernet devices together. Connect four PCs directly, or attach more hubs and switches to create as big a network as you need. Finally, the Router function ties it all together and lets your whole network share a high-speed cable or DSL Internet connection.Once your computers are connected to the Router and the Internet, they can communicate with each other too, sharing a printer, digital music, picture and document files, and multi-player or on-line games. To protect your data and privacy, the Wireless-G Broadband Router can encode all wireless transmissions with WEP or industrial-strength WPA Personal encryption. The Router can serve as a DHCP Server, has a powerful SPI firewall to protect your PCs against intruders and most known Internet attacks, and supports VPN pass-through. Configuration is a snap with the web browser-based configuration utility. And the tiny form factor fits any home or desktop. With the Linksys Compact Wireless-G Broadband Router at the center of your home or office network, you can share a high-speed Internet connection, files, printers, and multi-player games with the flexibility, speed, and security you need!

I had ordered the GSI Adapter specifically for my MacBook Pro. Although it does work fairly well, the installation for the Mac was far from intuitive. It took some time to find the correct download/installation drive from the ones available online. However, the product has boosted whatever signal I have considerably. Although I still have the occasional trouble with my wireless signal dropping out entirely this happens with far less regularity as before. The program itself for wireless utility is easy to use and the adapter makes for a small and transportable addition to my laptop accessories. Overall much better than without, though not perfect.

I'm happy I didn't read the reviews before buying this amazing adapter, because I now own one of the best USB network adapters money can buy! I do have to say that I did buy the lower grades of Belkin adapters and they were in now way comparable to this model... I'm averaging twice the network speed and blazing through internet sights like never before! I have been using the adapter with no problems what so ever with a netgear WNDR3700 N600... I will report back if I experience any adverse reactions to my computer/and or operating system. I'm not a computer network expert or wiz but rest assured that you do not need to be one in order to maximize the full benefits of this unit.

Best part it is cisco!
Worst part is: I'm a CCNA and wasn't able to set it up properely. (Thats a headsup!)
Other simple home/small office routers have a better to use graphical user interface with my experiance.
If you lack knowledge in using the command line interface in IOS (Cisco routers operating systems), this device won't be of much help to you.

Hawking Hi-Speed 54M Wireless G Router (HWR54G) Review

Hawking Hi-Speed 54M Wireless G Router (HWR54G)
Average Reviews:

I got this one as a replacement for a wireless D-Link DI-784 router that was glitchy and could not be programmed at all. And this was quite a change! While this router is not too sophisticated in terms of either available wireless security protocols or some other features, it has everything one needs to create a home network, and more.
Namely, compared to similar wireless routers from better known brands (DLink, NetGear, Linksys) this one:
1. Is PROGRAMMABLE. That is, it does not stop working or deos not develop glitshes when you change modes and parameters. (Many others present you with a whole spectrum of glitches when you start changing default settings.)
2. Supports any Internet connections, not only cable/DLS. You CAN use it with a leased line, you CAN connect it to another router with a static address, etc.
3. You CAN assign it a static IP address, and it works. (MOST others don't.)
4. It does support opening additional ports for your special applications (such as IP telephony - see below), and it works. (Many others don't do it properly.)
5. You can switch the DHCP feature off, and the router still works. (Many others don't.)
6. VPN pass-through works, and one can really connect to your work networks from home without glitches.
SUMMARY: I have successfully set the router up so that it currently supports 3 wired computers, 1 wireless, and a Vonage IP phone router. I couldn't do it with other routers from manufacturers mentioned above, because all of them were glitchy and actually could not work with static IP addresses and/or other routers and/or DHCP off, etc.
All wireless features work fine, and the speed/range are acceptable. One can use a long WEP key (26 Hexadecimal characters), and communication is fast and stable.
For those who are interested in configuring IP telephony: Vonage offers great phone plans, but it currently sends you a regular Linksys router of of its own with 3 RJ45 ports and 2 phone ports. So IF you have more than 3 computers and/or computers using wireless, you need to set up TWO routers to work together. And I succeeded in doing this with the Hawking one. Namely, I have connected the Hawking HWR54G to the cable modem, and it is the "primary" router with DHCP enabled. All 3 wired computers are connected to it as well as the wireless laptop.
The "secondary" Vonage router is connected to the primary one using a STATIC IP address (outside of the range used by DHCP). That way you can guarantee that it will always have the same address irrespective of the number of reboots. This configuration makes it possible to MAKE calls, but not receive them, because the system (primary router) doesn't know where to send incoming call data packets, and also blocks some of the ports by default (firewall function).
So I opened the IP telephony ports on the Hawking router and set up re-routing of these data packets to the Vonage Linksys router at its static IP address. Also, I had to open port ranges used by Vonage by adding these to the list of custom applications. Ports to be opened on the router/firewall:
69-69 (Vonage 1)
5060-5063 (Vonage 2)
10000-20000 (Vonage 3)
All three apps should be checked.
That way the phone works both ways, i.e. you can receive calls as well!
On the negative side, the only thing that I noticed was as follows: from time to time (once a day if you work intensively for the whole day) the router can "hang", and wireless networking stops working. As soon as you unplug it and then plug it in again, it reboots, and everything works fine. Nothing else is needed (no computer reboots). Generally speaking, this is quite a good result compared to some other models, and I can live with it. Recommended.

SMC SMCWBR14T-G Barricade g 2.4GHz 108 Mbps Wireless Cable/DSL Broadband Router Review

I had nothing but problems with linksys brand wireless routers, with connections dropping all the time. I own an ancient (well, in PC terms) 8 port wired router by Barricade, and have never, ever had any trouble with it. So I thought I'd search for an SMC wireless. I found this one, ordered it, and set it up in no time. And that was particularly easy, considering I'm using it as a wireless access point (with my wired SMC) for my house, with 4 wired pcs and 2-3 laptops and a printer. I have yet to have a connection drop and I've had it for over a year. Plain and simple, it just works, and works well. Oh, the linksys? I got rid of it through freecycle. I couldn't bear the thought of charging someone for that piece of you know what. I felt guilty enough giving it away. :)

SMC Barricade g Wireless Broadband Router (SMCWBR14-G) Review

SMC Barricade g Wireless Broadband Router (SMCWBR14-G)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Update - Dec. 30, 2005: I liked how well this router worked at my home that I bought a second one to install at my mother-in-laws over the holidays. As with my first unit, it installed in minutes, was operational immediately and the only 'set-up' needed was to configure some basic encription which took another couple of minutes.
Perhaps there are more robustly featured routers out there, but what I want is ease, speed and basic security. And this thing delivers all three at an excellent price pont!
Pros:
a)Installed smoothly, replacing an older SMC 802.11b router. Everything was operational within 30 minutes, including three wireless PCs (including my new Hawking USB device on one), a wireless printer (see note below, though) and a secondary Linksys access point.
b)Connections on my two 802.11g-enabled PCs immediately linked at the higher speeds. And you can tell the difference!
c)Surprisingly, my signal strength in the remote office jumped significantly, increasing from ~40-60% levels to 90+% levels. I was not expecting this type of improvement because 802.11g is not supposed to go further, just faster. And this unit only has one antenna vs. two on my older SMC so I was actually concerned that I might even see poorer signal strength.
Needless to say, I am very pleased as my network is faster and covers a greater distance than before!
Cons:
a)Not a real con, but if you must have your router be a printer server as well, this does not have that function built in. Not a big deal for most home applications - just hook up your printer to a PC and slave it from there. Or, use a wireless printer like I do (highly recommended HP 7410) and eliminate the wires altogether!
Installation notes - While everything easily installed an configured as noted above, if you have a second access point or a wireless printer, keep the following in mind:
a)Your access point needs to be reconfigured to a new IP that matches the new router's address range. If you don't, your second access point does nothing for you! Easy to do but easy to forget!
b)Okay, this one stumped me for a while! I had my wireless printer configured to the new network in less than a minute. Everything was `visible' on the network. The PCs all `saw' the printer. But nothing printed! Hmmm ... nothing in the router or printer manuals. No help from Windows XP. Guess not too many people have wireless printers and change their wireless router! The problem isn't the printer, the router or the PC, really. It is just that each PC's printer port is configured to `point' to an old IP address from your prior router and nothing updates this automatically for you. Simple, really. Just open your printer properties and `add' a new printer port (the wizard will find the new IP address for you) and everything once again works flawlessly. This is not an issue for 99% of you who have wired printers, but for anyone with a wireless printer (and I love mine!), keep this in mind!
