Netopia 3346N-ENT ADSL/ADSL2+ Modem & 4 Port Switch Review

Netopia 3346N-ENT ADSL/ADSL2+ Modem and 4 Port Switch
Average Reviews:

I was seriously considering this modem but prior comments about it not having a GUI interface for configuration sent me to the Netopia ("a Motorola company") website to read the actual product manual. Kudos to Netopia for making it fairly quick and easy to find this PDF file.
No kudos for its content, however. Having all Macs, naturally I turned to the section on Configuring TCP/IP in Macintosh computers and was absolutely gob-smacked to find it quite detailed with screen shots -- for Mac OS 9! You remember OS 9? The one that was last released in 2001? The one for which upward compatibility was finally dropped when Apple went to Intel processors in 2005, SIX YEARS AGO???
I'm sorry, but seriously? You haven't been able to update the manual in this decade?
No sale.

3G Wireless Broadband Router Review

3G Wireless Broadband Router
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This stylish product is made by LevelOne, has by far the smallest footprint of all routers I have seen, and appears to work with the widest range of 3G modems.
The 3G broadband router turns your 3G wireless broadband into a WiFi connection. Why would you want to do that?
a) to let several computers share one 3G wireless broadband connection simultaneously
b) to use the internet at a place in the house where the cell phone signal is not so great, i.e. place the router where the signal is strong and let it send "the internet" on to your laptop in the basement
The router has an amazing number of advanced settings and features to lock down and filter traffic, so security should not be a problem if you want to set your home network up in any imaginable configuration. It almost works out of the box, just follow the instructions in the small quick start guide provided: attach antenna, insert PCMCIA card, connect the supplied ethernet cable to your PC, connect power. Then start browser and go to 192.168.0.1 , enter password, move to advanced, select 3G under WAN (yes, under WAN) and it is ready. The only thing to know is that for the Verizon PC5750 PCMCIA EVDO card the following settings apply:
Dial-Number: #777
Username: xxxxxxxxxxx@verizonwireless.com (where you put your cell number)
password: vzw
The PC card has to have been activated, which means it has to have been used before. If you don't know your cell number, insert the PC5750 into the computer and connect, the number will appear in the bottom of the Verizon Access Manager software.
By default the wireless network is open, so should be secured. The router antenna output power can be adjusted if you don't need to cover a large area.
I called Technical Support before purchasing and they were prompt and knowledgable.

D-Link DI-784 Wireless Cable/DSL Router, 802.11a/802.11g, 108Mbps Review

D-Link DI-784 Wireless Cable/DSL Router, 802.11a/802.11g, 108Mbps

As several others here, and elsewhere, have reported - the unit worked fine (great actually) for several months, then started locking up. All LED's lit - reboot and all is ok. Does it once or twice a day, sometimes more often. If I leave for a few days, it will surely be locked up when I return. Have updated to the latest 2.40 firmware - no help.

Linksys Compact Wireless-G Internet Video Camera Review

Linksys Compact Wireless-G Internet Video Camera
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The image quality of this camera isn't great, and as the other reviewer states, it needs lots of light. The resolution of the video is fairly poor, comparable to a very cheap 4-year-old webcam. If you need to see detail in the image (e.g. for certain security-camera purposes), then it will not work.
Another thing to note is that this camera is much bigger than it looks--it is about the size of your hand. I was hoping to squeeze it into a tight space, but the camera's size took me by surprise. It will be difficult to hide this camera if you are hoping to use it for hidden security purposes.
In sum, if you need a cheap camera that can sit out in the open and take low-detail video of a well-lit room, then this is your product. Otherwise, you should look for more professional (or wired) cameras.

The Linksys Compact Wireless-G Internet Video Camera sends live video through the Internet to a web browser anywhere in the world! This compact, self-contained unit lets you keep track of your home, your kids, your workplace -- whatever's important to you. Unlike standard "web cams" that require an attached PC, the Internet Video Camera contains its own web server, so it can connect directly to a network, either over Wireless-G (802.11g) networking, or over 10/100 Ethernet cable. The advanced MPEG-4 video compression produces a high-quality, high-frame rate, up to 320x240 video stream. The Compact Internet Video Camera's unique form-factor and wireless connectivity allows you to mount it on a wall nearly anywhere, or slip it into its included stand for desktop use. Once it's connected to your home network, you can "see what it sees" from any Windows-based PC in the house, while the video stream is secured from the outside world, hidden behind your Router. If you want the video to be visible from outside your home network, you can open an appropriate port on the Router, and then create password protected accounts to manage access to the camera, or leave it wide open for the world to see. The SoloLink domain service (trial sign-up included) lets you access your camera using an easy-to-remember "name", even if your home Internet connection uses a dynamic IP address.

Indoor 1W 802.11b/g Fixed-Gain Booster/Amplifier Signal up to 1500M Review

Indoor 1W 802.11b/g Fixed-Gain Booster/Amplifier Signal up to 1500M

After exchanging the initial product with one that worked this product did improve the range of my WI-FI. The tech support was great on dealing with the exchange of the bad unit, although I did RMA through DBRoth instead of the manufacturer in the end because it was a quicker exchange. I am broadcasting about 1/4 mile with an external 19dbi antenna using a Linksys WAP54G. At the receiving end I used a second WAP54G with original antennas as a repeater. I tried using various other APs, the Cicso worked best but was more expensive than the Linksys. Others did not perform that well. Do not expect this to double or triple your reception. I saw a 20-30% improvement, which was what I needed. I also tested this product in my office with similar results, 20-30% signal boost. I used WISpy from [...] to test signal strength.

D-Link WDA-1320 Wireless G Desktop Adapter Review

D-Link WDA-1320 Wireless G Desktop Adapter
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this wireless card to replace the Linksys WMP54G v4.1 which I could never make it to work with Suse 10. To my total surprise, this D-Link WDA-1320 works with Suse 10 without any hassle - no need to use Ndiswrapper and 3rd party driver. The card was correctly detected by the system after the machine was booted up in Linux mode (it's a dual boot machine). I configured the card using Suse's YaST2 tool and that's it. This card doesn't have a great range. It comes with a tiny antenna, and even after I replaced the antenna with the bigger antenna from the old Linksys card, the signal stength is still kind of weak. There were also some minor problems during driver installation as usual. But I can't complain as it works just fine and it works with Suse 10 out of the box, thank goodness!
By the way, the card I got has the Hardware Version A1 and Firmware Version 1.0
