D-Link DGE-530T 10/100/1000 Gigabit Desktop Adapter Review

Average Reviews:

I'm having the same connectivity issues as the other two reviewers (Noah and Casey). We have two servers where I installed the cards, running Windows 2003 Standard Server with SP1 and all updates; the servers are connected to 3COM gigabit switch. The connection starts just fine, but it cuts off in about 2 to 4 min of medium file traffic, and the servers become inaccessible - not even responding to pings. The card needs to be reset to restore the connection - only to drop it again in the next 3 minutes. We tested the switch to ensure it's working, and we tested the cabling, as well, - everything seemed working fine. Finally, we gave up and installed more expensive Intel 82541PI Gigabit cards. No problems since then.

NETGEAR WG311T Super-G Wireless PCI Adapter Review

NETGEAR WG311T Super-G Wireless PCI Adapter
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Just installed the WG311T PCI cards on two pc's connecting through my WGT624 and so far everything is great . Good signal and speed on both computers and no dis-connects . Iam pretty happy with my results todate .
But .......
IMPORTANT NOTE ON INSTALL WITH XP AND SP2 !!!
1.)If you use the Netgear application to monitor/manage your Wifi stuff then you MUST disable the "wireless-zero" in the "Adminstative tools" in the control panel for things to work correctly ( start/settings/contrpl panel/administative tools/services/wireless zero ; and put to "DISABLE"
2.)If you use WindowsXP to monitor/manage your Wifi , then you MUST disable the Netgear application (start /run / then TYPE IN: msconfig / then look in "startup"/ then DISABLE or UN-CHECK the line saying "GEAR 311T".
You must do one of the two items Ive listed to make sure your netgear Wifi works /connects properly (to the internet) . Seems you cant NOT use both applications together in anyway . Ive done ALOT of testing on this and this is the ONLY method(s) Ive found to work correctly (and this is not mentioned by Netgear or Microsoft) .
I hope this helps future users of this equipment . =)

Wireless networking is constantly evolving, and the need for increasingly faster speeds and greater range is not only sought after, but expected. If better wireless speed and range with consistent wireless connections is what you're looking for, then NETGEAR has you covered with the WG311T Super-G Wireless PCI Adapter. With this handy device you'll have no more dropped connections, and you can kiss dead spots goodbye.
If you love all the new media applications, such as video and music streaming, you know you need a wireless connection that operates at lightning quick speeds to keep things running smooth. These new applications are nearly impossible with the old 802.11b wireless protocol, but they are certainly attainable with increased wireless speeds. The WG311T delivers the speed you desire. At 108 Mbps, it is up to ten times faster than 802.11b, and extends your network coverage up to four times more than standard Wireless-G protocol.
NETGEAR also helps you keep it simple with an easy-to-use, intuitive 32-bit PIC bus interface, and is designed specially for your PC. Just install the WG311T into the notebook PC, and you'll be ready to connect. Plus, you can keep your network private with WEP encryption.
Setup is made quick and easy with the Smart Wizard install software. System requirements include a Pentium III class PC with an available PCI 2.2 compliant slot, 20 MB of free hard drive space, and Microsoft Windows Vista, XP, 2000, 98SE, or Me. Microsoft Vista Beta drivers are available at www.netgear.com/vista.

MSI PC60G Wireless 11g Turbo G PCI Card Review

MSI PC60G Wireless 11g Turbo G PCI Card
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I had nothing but trouble with the Netgear wireless PCI card (NETGEAR WG311 Wireless-G PCI Adapter) that came with my XP PC. It kept locking up my PC at the worst possible times, and nothing I tried, even with the help of Netgear's tech support, was able to eliminate the problem. An attempted Trendnet replacement (Trendnet TEW423PI 54Mbps 802.11g Wireless PCI) was worse; I couldn't even get any driver to load. In contrast, this MSI Turbo mode wireless PCI card has worked like a charm and with its little separate antenna gets a much better signal from my wireless router. This is an inexpensive wireless PCI card that is compatible with my XP PC system and that instantly resolved my PC's locking-up problem.

D-Link WDA-1320 Wireless G Desktop Adapter Review

D-Link WDA-1320 Wireless G Desktop Adapter
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this wireless card to replace the Linksys WMP54G v4.1 which I could never make it to work with Suse 10. To my total surprise, this D-Link WDA-1320 works with Suse 10 without any hassle - no need to use Ndiswrapper and 3rd party driver. The card was correctly detected by the system after the machine was booted up in Linux mode (it's a dual boot machine). I configured the card using Suse's YaST2 tool and that's it. This card doesn't have a great range. It comes with a tiny antenna, and even after I replaced the antenna with the bigger antenna from the old Linksys card, the signal stength is still kind of weak. There were also some minor problems during driver installation as usual. But I can't complain as it works just fine and it works with Suse 10 out of the box, thank goodness!
By the way, the card I got has the Hardware Version A1 and Firmware Version 1.0

Cisco-Linksys Wireless-N PCI Adapter WMP300N Review

Cisco-Linksys Wireless-N PCI Adapter WMP300N
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This draft N PCI adapter works great paired with the Linksys WRT300N draft Wireless-N router. I have three computers in my home all using WMP300N cards along with my WRT300N router. I also have a Vonage phone adapter hooked into my router (via Ethernet cable). No complaints at all. This product is speedy and appears to be low latency as well. It can easily handle the 4 Megabits/second download rate from my cable internet without any glitches or slowing down. If only more websites transmitted that fast!
There is one caveat, however, I recommend that you do not install the Linksys software that comes on the CD. I found that it utilized quite a bit of CPU bandwidth just keeping the connection current. However, if you let Windows install the DRIVERS ONLY by searching the CD-ROM for the correct drivers, then it works perfectly and doesn't burn up any extra CPU cycles. With the Linksys driver software installed, I was seeing upwards of 30-50% CPU utilization even when not surfing the web. With the drivers installed via Windows XP hardware installation wizard, CPU utilization went down to practically zero whether surfing the web or not. Great product, especially for the price!
Addendum regarding drivers - February 24, 2007 - The newest drivers do not cause the CPU utilization problems. I still don't think they are necessary, but at least they don't cause high CPU utilization problem.

The Linksys Wireless-N PCI Adapter installs in most desktop and tower PCs, and lets you put your computer almost anywhere in the building without the cost and hassle of running network cables. Now you don't have to drill holes in your walls and climb through the attic or cellar to get connected to the network. The Wireless-N PCI Adapter uses the very latest wireless networking technology, Wireless-N (draft 802.11n).By overlaying the signals of multiple radios, Wireless-N's "Multiple In, Multiple Out" (MIMO) technology multiplies the effective data rate.Unlike ordinary wireless networking technologies that are confused by signal reflections, MIMO actually uses these reflections to increase the range and reduce "dead spots" in the wireless coverage area. The robust signal travels farther, maintaining wireless connections up to 4 times farther than standard Wireless-G.With Wireless-N, the farther away you are, the more speed advantage you get.It works great with standard Wireless-G and -B equipment, but when both ends of the wireless link are Wireless-N, the throughput can be increased even more by using twice as much radio band, yielding speeds up to 12 times as fast as standard Wireless-G.Once you're connected, you can surf the web, keep in touch with your e-mail, and share files and other resources such as printers and network storage with other computers on the network. To protect your data and privacy, your wireless connection is secured by up to 256-bit WPA2 encryption. The included Setup Wizard will walk you through configuring the adapter to your network's settings, step by step.

Cisco-Linksys Wireless-G PCI Card WMP54G - Network adapter - PCI - 802.11b, 802.11g Review

Cisco-Linksys Wireless-G PCI Card WMP54G - Network adapter - PCI - 802.11b, 802.11g

I haven't had this product long enough to know whether it will last, but I was extremely impressed by the ease of setup--definitely 5 stars!
I bought this to add a new Dell desktop PC to our existing wireless-G network, with a Linksys router. (That HAS lasted well, for the last 2 years.) Let me state that I hated setting up the network originally, because I didn't know what I was doing, and I have had trouble adding friend's laptops onto it when they came to visit. I was anticipating several hours of playing with network names, channel settings, and security codes to get it right. Installing the hardware was a bit of a pain, but that is my fault and Dell's--first, because I turned off the computer and started to take it apart before I read the directions that said to install the software FIRST, and second, because Dell made it easy to open their case, but hard to get the back cover off the one empty PCI slot (which looked like two empty slots from the outside). But once I had the card in, the case closed, the antenna screwed on, and the power back on, the directions said to press the button on the front of the router and click "next" on the computer. I did, and about 60 seconds later, the computer was on the Internet!! I wish everything was this easy!
(Added April 2009) Like some others here, our card did stop communicating after about 6 months. After about 15 hours on the phone with both Dell and Linksys technical support, I figured out that the cause was another company's trial software that Dell had installed on our system--it set up a firewall that we could not turn off, that protected us from the dangers of the Internet by not allowing us ON the Internet. We had to re-install all software on our computer and we are still having problems. However, I do not blame Linksys for the problem, because it was not their software that caused the problem, and the rest of our Linksys network works just fine. FYI, our operating system is Windows XP.

TRENDnet 300Mbps Wireless N PCI Adapter TEW-623PI Review

TRENDnet 300Mbps Wireless N PCI Adapter TEW-623PI
Average Reviews:

Works well, good speed, connected to a trendnet "N" router. The only thing that you should know is that it does not appear to be configurable using a "hidden" SSID. I had to broadcast the SSID, configure the card, ensure that the feature was active that tells the card to connect to the network even if it's not broadcasting, and then hid the SSID on my router. It's a big of a quirk, but easily worked around. The price can't be beat!

NETGEAR WG311 Wireless-G PCI Adapter Review

Average Reviews:

First of all, this card is a great product and better than any of the competitors, to include Linksys and D-Link. With the deployment of SP2 you will need to change the install procedure for the V2 card so that it works without causing your system to reboot constantly. DO NOT install the utility and drivers ahead of time as the instructions in the packaging tell you to. Rather, install the card, then boot up and let windows detect the hardware. Instead of installing the drivers automatically, use the "I Will Select" the hardware option then through the hardware wizard browse to the XP Drivers folder on the disc and let windows install ONLY the driver, not the utility. XP has a very good wireless management utility and you will give up nothing by not having the Netgear utility installed. The card will finish install and you'll be up and running.

The NETGEAR WG311 Wireless-G PCI Adapter makes it easy for you to provide wireless internet access to your desktop computer, letting you surf the web, check email, and chat online without the need for cables.
Easy Setup The WG311 is a PCI adapter and requires a Pentium 3 class PC with an available PCI 2.2 slot for installation. It supports Windows Vista and is also compatible with Windows XP, 2000, 98SE, and Me. Setup is as simple as inserting the adapter into a PCI slot and installing the included software. A built-in stub antenna helps you receive as strong a signal as possible for the fastest possible speeds.
Fast and Secure The NETGEAR WG311 supports the 802.11g protocol standard for speeds up to 54 Mbps and a longer range than previous-generation 802.11b adapters. With a good connection, you'll notice the difference right away as you'll be able to stream high-quality music without any hiccups and load videos much faster. Downloading files is up to five times faster than it was with 802.11b. Since 802.11g is also interoperable with 802.11b, you don't have to worry about whether or not you'll get a connection elsewhere if you move your computer around; the WG311 will automatically detect the network and allow you to connect to it at the highest speed possible.
The adapter supports 40/64-bit and 128-bit WEP encryption for security so you don't have to worry about anyone eavesdropping on your emails or stealing your passwords. The included software makes managing different WEP passwords a breeze as you can set up different profiles for each wireless network you connect to, saving yourself the trouble of having to type in encryption keys each time.
The NETGEAR WG311 Wireless-G PCI Adapter is backed by a 1-year warranty.

ASUS PCI-G31 - Wireless PCI Adapter - 802.11b/g Review

ASUS PCI-G31 - Wireless PCI Adapter - 802.11b/g
Average Reviews:

I just upgraded my main PC and wanted to create a media server in the living room from my old box. It only had a CAT-5 on-board network adapter so I needed a wireless card. This is great for the money - does exactly what it's supposed to do. The router is on the opposite side of the wall about 6' away, so of course the signal strength comes in 100%.
It was not immediately recognized by Windows XP SP3, but I just ran the autoplay from the CD and installed everything from there. The mistake was to use ASUS' proprietary network manager and disable Windows' network manager. The ASUS network manager looks like something from 1995 and works like it too. It's just some other piece of junk to run in the background to hog more resources. It can connect just fine, but you have to navigate to several screens to connect. Also, it claims that it will save your password and settings, but it never does. So, I have to manually connect and enter the password every time I boot up -- lame!
Just install the drivers and bypass the ASUS network manager install and you'll be very satisfied.

Cisco-Linksys WMP54G Wireless-G PCI Adapter Review

Cisco-Linksys WMP54G Wireless-G PCI Adapter
Average Reviews:

Installation was a snap - a few minutes of one's time. Find an available PCI slot and load the included driver with the supplied CD. Once installation is complete, the card will detect all available networks in the area. All you have to do is enter the necessary WEP key (if enabled) in ASCI or HEX format, depending on the type of wireless router.
In my case, I am using an Apple Airport Base Station for my two Apple computers. I recently added a Windows PC using XP. I initially had hesitations in wireless network compatibility for the "G" standard properly commuicating with my "B" standard Base Station. I finally decided on buying the Linksys and found that there was no compatibility issue at all.
The signal strength is excellent. I never had any problems with my network status and online surfing experience.
My only complaint is the unattractive long, generic-looking antenna. Compare this with other products like D-Link, Netgear and SMC Networks that have a short (flat/square design) antenna.
Why did I settle on the Linksys brand despite the ugly antenna design? For one, I have great experience with their wireless router (BEFW11S4) which I purchased years ago during it's initial release and have not had any problem with it. Second, Linksys is the current leader in wireless technology. I am hoping that they will be able to provide excellent drivers should compatibility problems arise with the latest operating systems. Third, Linksys is owned by another leader in the networking industry, Cisco Systems. These factors should be enough to assure a sturdier product.
But before you purchase on any product, do your own research for your specific system compatibility.
