The NETGEAR WN311T RangeMax Next Wireless-N PCI Adapter makes it easy for you to provide blazing-speed wireless internet access to your desktop computer, letting you surf the web, check email, stream music, make internet phone calls, and get a leg up on opponents when playing online games.
Easy Setup The WN311T is a PCI adapter and requires a Pentium 3 class PC with an available PCI slot for installation. It supports Windows Vista and is also compatible with Windows XP and 2000 SP4. Setup is as simple as installing the adapter into a PCI slot, connecting the included antenna, and installing the included software. The external antenna is housed in a small elegant white box that is preset for maximum performance and allows for extended range.
Fast, Backwards Compatible, and Secure The NETGEAR WN311T uses the Wireless-N protocol (based on 802.11n draft) for speeds up to 300 Mbps and a range ten times greater than 802.11g adapters. With this much speed and bandwidth, you can easily download large files, place Internet phone calls, download MP3s, stream video, and play online games -- all at the same time, without hiccups, and from farther away. You'll notice the difference immediately.
The WN311T is backwards compatible with 802.11g and 802.11b wireless networks so you'll be able to connect to any hotspot, and it improves network performance up to 50 percent when used with the older 802.11b/g networks.
You can feel secure about your information as the adapter supports Wi-Fi protected access (WPA2-PSK, WPA-PSK) and 64-bit and 128-bit WEP encryption for IEEE 082.11b and IEEE 802.11g. The included software makes managing different WEP passwords a breeze as you can set up different profiles for each location you frequent, saving yourself the trouble of having to type in encryption keys each time you connect to a hotspot you've already used.
The NETGEAR WN311T RangeMax Next Wireless-N PCI Adapter is backed by a 1-year warranty.

Cisco-Linksys WRT54GX Wireless-G Broadband Router with SRX Review

I live in a two story house, with plenty of walls in between. This unit replaced 3 11a Access Points. I can now get 108mbps anywhere in my house with almost 100% signal strenght (my laptop is using the WPC54GX card).
The web interface is very straightforward and looks professional. I would buy it again.

Now you can enjoy wireless home-network access in those hard-to-reach rooms and--simultaneously--get faster networking and Internet performance, too. The WRT54GX Wireless-G broadband router from Linksys uses the company's advanced SRX (Speed and Range eXpansion) technology to enhance the speed and the reach of a Wireless-G (802.11g) network. The WRT54GX can provide faster wireless network throughput, reduce dead spots, and increase wireless range over standard Wireless-G networks. The handy WRT54GX serves as an Internet-sharing router, a four-port 10/100 switch, and an SRX-enhanced Wireless-G access point all at once. Relative to standard 80 2.11g technology, a network using all SRX products can extend network reach up to three times as far and boost wireless network speed by up to eight times. (Actual throughput, speed, and range depend on a host of factors, from building materials to network traffic and distance from the router.) The device is Wi-Fi-certified and backward compatible with 802.11b (Wireless-B), 802.11g (Wireless-G) and, of course, other Linksys SRX products. Mixed wireless environments such as networks containing SRX, Wireless-B, and Wireless-G products can operate each client at its own maximum data rate. SRX products maintain their higher speed and range, providing the throughput and quality of service to deliver applications such as VoIP (Internet telephony) and video streaming. SRX is based on MIMO (multiple-in, multiple-out) technology, a key component in the upcoming Wireless-N (802.11n) standard. To improve range and speed, MIMO uses two radios and three antennas on a wireless router or client adapter. To enhance data protection and privacy, the router can encode all wireless trans missions with WPA (Wireless Protection Access). Its powerful Stateful Packet Inspection (SPI) firewall enhances protection to all the wired and wireless PCs against intruders and most known Internet attacks while also supporting VPN passthrough. Configuration is easy using a Web-browser-based configuration utility. What's in the Box Wireless-G broadband router, a setup CD-ROM with Symantec Internet Security, a u ser's guide on CD-ROM, an AC power adapter, an Ethernet network cable, a quick-i nstallation guide, and a registration card.

NETGEAR WNR854T RangeMax Next Wireless-N Router Gigabit Edition Review

NETGEAR WNR854T RangeMax Next Wireless-N Router Gigabit Edition
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First, let's get a few things out of the way: I am not a newbie, I am not bitter, and I have absolutely no incentive to bash any company - Netgear included. I am writing this review because I want to prevent anyone else from making the mistake of buying this product. Why? Because it is a defective design - and, more importantly, Netgear has no idea what is wrong with it. What does that mean to you as a consumer? Your device will most likely fail. And Netgear is not likely to make it right. Here's the story:
After between 3 and 6 months of your router working perfectly, you will wake up one day and only the green power light will be on. The wireless light will no longer blink actively and the network lights will all be dead. Why you ask? Because your router has just bitten the dust. You'll unplug the router several times to reboot it, but nothing will change. Then, you'll press and hold the reset button on the back for 10 seconds or longer - just like the manual tells you to. But that won't fix it either. After a few more tries, you'll finally suspect that the thing is dead and, if you're like me, you'll go to Netgear's site and find no documentation of the problem in their knowledgebase. Then, you'll go to the trusty forums where they can't hide their problems, and you'll see hundreds - yes, hundreds - of posts by users just like you and I who are having the exact same problem. And those are only the small percentage of troubled users who actually bothered to write about it. They'll share stories of nightmare phone calls with Netgear, and some will tell you about the same problem happening to 2, and sometimes 3 replacement routers. Frustrated before you even begin, you'll probably call Netgear to confirm it all and to see if maybe you're reading outdated posts. Certainly the problem must be fixed by now. So you'll call them and get placed on hold for anywhere between 10-45 minutes while you're treated to a selection of awful music, paused only by a shameless pre-recorded message telling you how much Netgear cares about you. Yeah, right. Finally, one of the interruptions will actually end up being a real-live person. What you'll have reached is a tech support agent (friendly, but fairly useless) who will confirm the problem (but only if you're saavy enough to tell them that you already read about it online) and then they'll offer you three return options - all of which have you, as the victim, paying to ship the unit back to them (provided you are still within the 1 year warranty period). Option 1 is for you to ship it and get a replacement within 5-7 business days. The second option is for them to ship you a replacement for $16 within 5-7 business days, along with a prepaid shipping label. This way, I guess, you don't have to bother with choosing the shipping company. And, unbelievably, the third option is to have them expedite you a new unit within 2 days, for the bargain price of a brand new router. How this option is helpful to us, I have yet to figure out. But, it will be presented to you as an option nonetheless. It seems they are making a tidy little business out of selling us defective units.
After all of this, hopefully, you are still calm, cool, and collected enough to ask if they have actually fixed the problem - a logical question to be certain since you don't want to pay to replace a bad router with another bad router. And then, if you get an honest person - as I did - they'll tell you that they actually have no idea what the problem is and that the replacement router will be no different from the one you are returning. So, although I haven't quite made it this far, I'm certain that you'll be doing the whole thing over again in another 3-6 months.
So what can we learn from this little story: 1) This router is sick; 2) There is no cure; 3) Netgear doesn't care; 4) Your time is worth more than all of this.
Stand up for yourself and, if you would be so kind, for me as well. Don't buy this item. Believe me, you will regret your purchase. Remember, this is not an opinion. It is a factual account of what happened to me and to hundreds of other consumers. Don't let it happen to you too.
Thanks for listening...

The NETGEAR WNR854T RangeMax Next Wireless-N Router Gigabit Edition lets you easily set up a wireless network in your home so you can share a single internet connection with everyone in your household at speeds up to 300 Mbps. You can stream music and video, make internet phone calls, videoconference, and surf the web, all at the same time.
Easy Setup The WNR854T makes it easy for even a novice to set up a wireless network: just plug the included Ethernet cable from your LAN into the device and insert the included CD into any computer on the network, which will provide step-by-step instructions. The WNR854T includes a stand for vertical placement.
The WNR854T employs a web-based interface for configuration for compatibility with any computer with a web browser. The firmware is also upgradeable via the web interface so you can be sure your router will always be up-to-date.

NETGEAR WN311B RangeMax Wireless-N PCI Adapter Review

So everyone having issues installing this in WINDOWS 7 (64 bit) I figured out how to do it. First you install the software from the disk (includes drivers) then shutdown, install the adapter in PCI slot, reboot and once your logged in you'll probably notice that Windows could not install drivers for this device- not to mention under Computer Management (Right-click Computer select manage>device, other device) it shows the device isn't installed properly- the fix is to select the device under other device (this is your network adapter), select update driver then manually search for your driver, now to find it you need to go through program files (x86), Netgear folder open, and you will see a drivers folder (don't open but select and okay)- here is the actual path for 64 bit default= C:\Program Files (x86)\NETGEAR\WN311B\Driver now windows 7 will connect these drivers to your adapter.
PRESTO
Your adapter will now launch set up wizzard and you'll be good to go.
Signal strength is slightly better than other adapters I've used but you do have to point the face of the RangeMax at your router location, just manuever it til you see the signal improve. Much better than USB adapters.
Drivers are a pain to install, otherwise this would've probably gotten better marks.

Mobile Broadband N Router Review

Mobile Broadband N Router

I recently was in the market for wireless router to use in extending my Clear WiMax 4G connection to devices that did not support the USB modem I purchased. The USB modem works great for my Windows laptop, but did not work for my older Mac, Wii or Netflix enabled Blu Ray player.
I thought about getting the router directly from Clear, but the device they offer had features I didn't need or want to pay for most notably the ability to run on batteries.
I eventually settled on the CradlePoint MBR 900 because:
It supports the Clear WiMax USB 4G modem
It supports wired connections, which is what I needed for my BluRay player for Netflix
It supports 802.X wireless connections which is what I needed for the Wii and older Mac
It has the needed security features (authentication and encryption
I received the device about a week after ordering it. It was easy to set up with one major issue, configuring the device for Clear WiMax 4G, which required a call to their support staff to resolve.
See the post here on how to resolve this:

I made the mistake of having a coworker pick me up a router "while they were out". Gihugic mistake. In my experience - This thing is a hunk of junk with crummy support.
The router stops forwarding packets at least twice a day, requiring at least a reboot from the interface, at most a power cycle.
Contacting Dynex is an exercise in futility. Have a look at their site before you consider this unit: No firmware updates, no email support (strictly phone). When I phone them, they want me to reboot the router. Ok - reboot the router, it's working (duh. We've already established that) again for the moment - they say their brief good-byes and consider the "solution" acceptable. [Grrr!]
I have very little port forwarding (just two ports) and traffic is moderately low. Firewalling is disabled. So the load on the router is certainly not to blame.
Upshot? Junk. I guess I'll pick my own router next time. Live and learn. ;-)

TRENDnet 4-Port Broadband Router TW100-S4W1CA (Blue) Review

TRENDnet 4-Port Broadband Router TW100-S4W1CA (Blue)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this Trendnet to replace an old Netgear router, which was still working fine, except it couldn't keep Outlook connected to its remote Exchange server. I suspected that the old router was too slow to handle the RPC over http (Exchange Proxy) connection that Outlook uses, but I wasn't sure. So I was looking for a new and ultra-low-cost router to see if it would fix the problem. This router solved the problem immediately - in fact Outlook connects faster from home now than it does at the office.
This router was easy to install and set up. At first I was reluctant to switch brands because I was already familiar with configuring Netgear routers (I also have a Netgear wireless router configured as an access point.) But I didn't have any trouble navigating the admin screens for the Trendnet. I connected my Netgear wireless router to one port of the Trendnet as a wireless access point and it works perfectly.
(Why two routers? My home office with its several computers is located at a corner of the house - a poor location for the wireless router. So the Trendnet router stays in the office. A cable runs from the Trendnet to a centrally located closet, where the Netgear wireless router lives. Some special configuration of the routers is required for this setup - it's explained on the Netgear web site.)
My only complaint about the Trendnet is the red flashing status light. According to the documentation that came with my router this light was supposed to be green, so I was trying to figure out what problem was causing it to flash red. Eventually I discovered that "OK" is now flashing red, not green. Personally I'd prefer a green light for OK - the flashing red can be distracting.
I hope that this router will prove as reliable as my Netgear routers have been.
