D-Link Wireless Internet Camera, Home Security, 802.11b, 11Mbps Review

I just bought this product and it's all what I expected. I just followed the quick installation guide, plugged in ethernet cable and the power, set the ip as recommended 192.168.0.20 on the camera and my wireless Netgear router and it works. I can view the camera immediately. But when I unplug the ethernet and into wireless mode, it didn't work. I ended up calling tech support and got a live support person in less than 5 minutes, he suggested I reboot(power down and up) my camera and router. The wireless mode now working.
I tried to set the camera up behind the router according to the instruction on the manual from the CD provided, it didn't work. After playing around for 3 hours, I finally figured out that the default port 80 and 8481 don't work, you have to open up the second port 81 and 8482. I IPView software provided in the CD does not have motion sensor, you can download the latest version of IPView with motion sensor for the DLINK website, and it works very well. It can detect a slightest movement.
PROS: price, good picture(can adjust brightness), motion sensor software(download latest IPView).
CONS: no audio, can not pan view(must manually pan camera), no email picture option.

Cisco-Linksys WRT55AG Dual-Band Wireless A+G Access Point + Cable/DSL Router with 4-Port 10/100 Switch Review

Cisco-Linksys WRT55AG Dual-Band Wireless A+G Access Point + Cable/DSL Router with 4-Port 10/100 Switch

This product is rushed to the market but not yet ready for prime time.
Issues:
1) If you are using VPN to access your companies network - forget it, this product won't allow you to connect (will not pass IPSec-L2TP or PPTP traffic through)
2) WEP encryption doesn't work - yes, you can enable it but after 3 min you will loose connectivity with you wireless network. With WEP disabled connectivity will stay up.
3) MAC filtering doesn't work also - the router will reset back to default (Disabled) setting as soon as you submit changes to it.
4) Changing Internet Filters setting will reset this router to factory default.
5) Firewall is also not performing well.
6) Tech support is "dancing" and you won't give you any type of answer when they will come up with firmware upgrade - they won't allow you to talk to a supervisor also - USELESS.
On my scale from 1 to 5 this product gets 1.5.
RMA

Dynex DX-E402 4-Port Ethernet Broadband Router - Router - 4-port switch - desktop Review

I made the mistake of having a coworker pick me up a router "while they were out". Gihugic mistake. In my experience - This thing is a hunk of junk with crummy support.
The router stops forwarding packets at least twice a day, requiring at least a reboot from the interface, at most a power cycle.
Contacting Dynex is an exercise in futility. Have a look at their site before you consider this unit: No firmware updates, no email support (strictly phone). When I phone them, they want me to reboot the router. Ok - reboot the router, it's working (duh. We've already established that) again for the moment - they say their brief good-byes and consider the "solution" acceptable. [Grrr!]
I have very little port forwarding (just two ports) and traffic is moderately low. Firewalling is disabled. So the load on the router is certainly not to blame.
Upshot? Junk. I guess I'll pick my own router next time. Live and learn. ;-)

D-Link 4-Port Wireless-G 54Mbps Router Review

D-Link 4-Port Wireless-G 54Mbps Router

I got this item for "free" as a promotion. Free, it's not, having cost me literally hours of troubleshooting. I have installed the latest firmware, 1.04 A1.
1) Hangs up for minutes at a time, seemingly randomly. You have to power cycle, or wait and it MAY recover.
2) Randomly won't let you log in, keeping you at the login screen. Have to power cycle, or reset to factory settings. In the latter case, you lose all your settings. This bug is reported consistently in forums you can find with a web search.
3) Many features are incompatible with wireless clients that work perfectly with other wireless routers. WEP and WPA would not work with two of my wireless cards. Auto Channel Scan fails in conjunction with WEP. It took a full afternoon of experimentation to discover which features are compatible with each other and with various clients. In the end, I had to use MAC filtering to enable any type of security that would work for all clients.
5) Static (in range) IP addresses fail for every client, while the router provides no way to link MAC addresses to a particular IP. This renders port forwarding useless.
5) Web interface and documentation is unclear and full of errors, from misspellings to inconsistent terminology to factual errors. The overall impression is of sloppy, haphazard engineering.
6) Technical support is provided by very polite folks in India, who will run you through their standard procedure over and over without actually solving the problem.
If you want a router that works, or if your time is worth anything, then don't buy this one.

Cisco WRV210 Wireless-G VPN Router - RangeBooster Review

Cisco WRV210 Wireless-G VPN Router - RangeBooster

(More customer reviews)

My experience with the WRV210 has been excellent. This was my first time setting up a VPN. I can assure you that any first time IPSec VPN setup will be tedious. Dealing with routers, modems, firewalls, certificates, and static IP addresses, is no picnic. That said, the WRV210 with QuickVPN client makes the task a good deal easier. I can understand other reviewers, here and elsewhere, that are not as positive regarding the WRV210. But I suspect that their ratings reflect more the tedium of the setup process rather than the device itself. And, face it, no one box, or one piece of software, is going to go out there, find the exact network that you care about, configure the routers, the modems, the firewalls, etc. with the exact functionality that you desire. To credit Linksys, the WRV210 User Guide is extensive. In some 75 pages, they clearly discuss many of the issues involved. The Linksys Online Forum was also great at filling in the blanks.
I also used the great freeware application UltraVNC (rev 1.0.5.3) to add a remote desktop connection capability through my WRV210 VPN "tunnel". It works great. (A big "thank you!" to the UltraVNC developers. My contribution is on the way.) At this point I think that I could write another chapter to the Linksys User Guide or Linksys Forum documenting my experience. I really love the robust features like a maximum of ten VPN clients, and up to four wireless SSID's. My WRV210 setup is in a small commercial studio that offers free Wi-Fi to its customers. The WRV210 wireless capability allowed me to tailor the hotspot for maximum user convenience as well as system security. It even provides a wireless LAN scheduling capability, as well as wireless isolation within a SSID which is great protection for public hotspots.
My VPN setup involves both Windows Vista and Windows XP machines. The WRV210 worked flawlessly with both operating systems. To those small business owners wanting to have a VPN capability like the big guys, the WRV210 is an outstanding cost-effective solution. I highly recommend it.
